Application Strategy

The Plan

Apply Early

Companies often conduct rolling hires. It's essential to submit your applications as soon as possible and complete any assigned tasks promptly. Time is of the essence.

Broaden Your Applications

Imagine 100 companies with one job opening each, and 100 qualified engineers applying. In such a scenario, the rejection rate is 99%, even with a 0% unemployment rate among the engineers. It's crucial to cast a wide net by applying to numerous companies. Maintain momentum; persevere without fixating on any single company. Apply and move on until you hear back, if at all.

If You Lack Experience

APPLY, APPLY, APPLY!!!

Rejection is commonplace, so don't let it deter you. Submitting applications in high volume is key to securing internships. Anticipate submitting around 300 applications and expect silence from 299 of them.

If You Have Experience

You can afford to be discerning with your applications. Strive to "upgrade" your internship for a more enriching experience.

Keep in mind that internships often pave the way for full-time job opportunities later on. Undoubtedly, prestigious companies can significantly boost your career trajectory.

Remaining complacent with a lesser-known company just because you've worked there before may not be in your best interest career-wise.

Streamline Your Application Efforts

Avoid investing time in applications that may result in rejection due to factors beyond your control. A high volume of applications increases your chances of success.

Pay close attention to crucial details such as graduation date and university name; for minor details, don't over-commit.

When faced with tedious requirements like writing essays, leverage templates or generative AI to streamline the process and save time.
